About Us

Saint George’s is the parish church for the southern part of Barbourne. If you live in Barbourne – in the area between Barbourne Brook, the railway, the canal and the river, regardless of whether you are a member of the Church of England or not, and whether you firmly believe that God exists or you find that difficult to accept, this is your church and it is here for you.

Your church will be happy to welcome you to joyful occasions such as weddings and Baptisms, or to more sad occasions such as funerals. Contact the Parish Priest (Father Ian) who can offer help and advice as required. There is a regular Sunday congregation, most of whom live locally, who attend the church. Services are conducted according to the Church of England service books, with a sense of relaxed formality. We deliberately aim for the middle ground, offering services which are neither too high nor too low. We also try to make our services user friendly with specially produced service booklets. The hymns are chosen to include both old and new.

Our Sunday morning service is usually a Eucharist, a service in which we say thank you to God for all that he has done for us, and where we meet him in his holy word in the Bible, in the prayers, in the bread and wine of Communion, and in the fellowship with each other after the service.

If you have children they are very welcome to join the other children of the Church in their own activities during the Parish Eucharist, where they can worship together at a level suitable for them. Younger ones can use the Friend-Ship. About nine times a year we hold an All Age Eucharist as our main service when we all worship together, and an attempt is made to include everyone in the worship.

We also have a tradition of good music, particularly concerts, and we are renowned in Worcester for our Last Night of the Proms which rivals the Albert Hall for exuberance and fun.
